i remember my teachers in grade and middle school talking about the history of language. and how english is just a “dirty form of french”. It’s just the simplified version of it and takes away a lot of stuff while not sound nice, elegant or anything at all. english is just “there”. lol
Always liked French and German. I just cant learn any other languages. I suck at it. And trust me I have tried and practiced
I’m not a fan of French but German is fun and not all that difficult.
I only know a few words and phrases but I can understand more.

my mom is german and was born in braunschweig! i tried to learn german when i was very young but it didnt catch on. i know a few phrases and can single out things in a conversation but i can’t start one. I wish i could be fluent. maybe that will be the next thing I could learn!
My grandparents spoke German in the house.
Probably when they didn’t want us kids to know what they were saying.
I wish I had paid more attention and asked more questions.
I hear it spoken at Oktoberfest and I can generally get the gist.
I can ask for some things like where the restroom is and such.
But I can’t have a full conversation. Not even close.
im sure i will be able to learn these days since my mind is more mature, im more patient, and have a willingness to do it
I think exposure helps a lot.
Watching German shows with the subtitles on.
Things like that help I’m told.
That’s what my friend from Belarus did.
Watched English shows with Russian subtitles.
Oh, but he said they were British and he couldn’t get the accent down.
So when he got to the US he was happy he could pronoun the words better.
Now he refuses to watch any movies with British accents. He says it pisses him off. lol
