Prepping

Hey guys! I’m a bit of a prepper myself! Ready for shit hits the fan scenarios like the markets crashing, society collapsing, dollars being useless, inflation going out of control and even zombie apocalypses! I’m pretty well stocked and ready to hunker down if necessary. Anybody else out there like me? :slightly_smiling_face:

Anyone else started prepping - Interested to hear what others are planning to do when SHTF

May I ask what ‘SHTF’ construes in your mind? Do you mean another world conflcit, a zombie apocalypse of the vaxxed perhaps, maybe a cosmic incursion or simply the installation of the NWO?

For me SHTF would be some sort of societal collapse/unrest - possibly a civil war or even something extreme as a nuclear bomb. But of course not everyone would think the same

Yep. I’ve got a years worth of food - pasta, white and brown rice, green, red and black lentils, several types of beans, a case of baked beans, cans of soup, spices, coconut oil, chilli sauce, soy sauce, honey, pickles and dog food.

Medications; most of my most important meds should last me 6 months.

There’s enough pipe tobacco stored to last me 2-3 years.

I’m in the process of growing enough green medicine to last a few years [Bud will keep for years, jarred and stored in the fridge]

Who knows how long the food shortage would last so I bought a wide range of heritage vegetable seeds, a dozen bales of straw and a dozen bags of composted fertiliser.

Similar setup to mine, I keep a few tanks worth of fuel. Is growing hard? Looking into setting up a small “farm” at home but the electric prices are big turn off

Growing cannabis is not difficult.

How complicated ones set-up is depends on the individual.

Beginners I advise to grow in a grow tent in pots using coco-coir, under a LED light. Keep it simple.

A basic set-up - grow tent and LED light can be bought for as little as $150aud [$120usd]

if odour is an issue then one needs a good carbon filter with extraction fan [buy a German made fan - not a cheap bit of kit but this is one area where one should not scrimp]

Electricity; before LED lights became affordable most home growers used HPS [high pressure sodium] and metal halide lamps.

These not only use a lot of electricity but they generate a lot of heat. [Excessive heat can stress a cannabis plant. Stress can turn a plant hermaphrodite, ruining ones plants] I had to have my act together because I only had a 5 month ‘grow season’ due to our climate.

LED lights are not only way more economical to run than HPS/MH, they put out way less heat.

Now I’m able to grow year round during a mild summer and for 9 months through an El Nino year.

Seeds; it’s worth buying from a seed bank. Good genetics is the key to growing excellent bud.

One can grow a mother plant to take clones or, it’s much less work to simply grow from feminised seeds [99.99% guaranteed female]

A mate who thinks he knows better and who is rather ‘careful’ with money, grows from bag seed. His bud is not worth smoking IMO [but better than nothing I guess]

The most important rule is to keep your efforts to yourself. Not only do people blab when it’s not putting themselves at risk, I’ve lost friends over it who expected me to keep them supplied [They often say “you got it for free”. Apart from that not being right, it’s an ignorant and entitled attitude]

People get jealous so when others ask for me to procure some bud for them I tell them it’s from a guy who has limited supply.

I’ll blow friends out but I will not risk my medicine supply by talking too much or by being too generous]

I’ve a cannabis thread if you’d like to take further discussion there; Natures Gift to Humanity; Cannabis

What type of fuel are you storing as diesel and gasoline don’t have much shelf life even with a stabilizer additive. the best is propane with basically a infinite shelf life.

Growing garden veggies ALL depends on your area and what you have access to for a place to grow. it can be done in many ways even in tubs on your patio.

good idea making this thread to keep it fresh in members minds. it’s also good for passer byers. gj vince :slightly_smiling_face:

stay away from my beans, guns, and ammo. then we cool

I just store the regular petrol for my car, I have some stabliser but with rural inflation of fuel price (can be a lot) it works out cheaper to have a “stockpile” of it then refill when it gets low

thanks for the cool thread. I am glad there are people here that think ahead and then give us information about how to do things.

corned beef hash in cans last a LONG TIME. along with beans, spam, various vegetables, potatoes, fruit and more. you stock up stuff like that like mad? you’ll be set for years

NOTE: If you don’t know canned goods will last much longer if they ate kept in cool dry areas and with as little temp swings as possible.

Also note many places are already starting to limit the amounts of items you can buy.

That’s where a well ventilated bunker comes in handy to store canned goods.

Limiting amounts will often trigger panic buying.

Hope everyone here heeded our warnings to stock up while it was still possible.

I’ve found beef jerky (self made) to be a good source of energy, not sure how long it lasts though

If it is cured good and then vacuum sealed or put in a air tight baggie with a moisture dry pack it will last for many years.

Beef jerky and beer, yum . . . Before I became a vegetarian beef jerky was a favourite nibble with a few beers.

How long jerky will keep actually depends a lot on the fat content.

Lean jerky that’s been correctly prepared and dehydrated will keep in a vacuum sealed container for up to two years.

Homemade jerky is said to only keep in a vacuum sealed container for two months.

The difference between commercially prepared and homemade jerky appears to relate to how thin the meat is cut, fat content and dehydration.

Here in Oz buffalo [from feral water buffalo in the Top End that are quite destructive to the environment] and kangaroo meat is often used because they’ve both got low fat content.

Atrands suggestion of “corned beef hash” would be a better alternative because it keeps way longer than jerky.

I’d also look into freeze dried meat which has a longer shelf-life than jerky IIRC.

If I still ate meat I’d be looking at it as a luxury item during a famine.

Legumes like beans and lentils are an excellent source of protein and will keep for years when properly stored.

Plus legumes are much cheaper than meat.

if it ever comes to nukes, im going to crack open one of my aged bottles of schnapps, but on the doors, set up a lawn chair, smoke a big fat cigar, and go out mile high lol!

That sounds like a plan!

I will try to survive just so I can then have free range to take out some scumbags that don’t s deserve to breathe anymore precious oxygen! LOL!
